* Episode 4 : ITALY, THE FORGOTTEN ARMY - PART TWO: Canadians in Italy, 1943-1945

Aware that the world's eyes are on Ortona, the Germans decide to fight for the city, and turn it into a deathtrap. After more than 20 days of bitter fighting, the Canadians liberate the town on December 28. The road north is open, but as winter has already arrived-with its swollen rivers and muddy fields-the road leads nowhere.

In May 1944, by breaking through the formidable Adolf Hitler Line in the Liri Valley, just under Monte Cassino, the Canadians open the road to Rome. The Italian capital itself is liberated soon after, on June 4, 1943.

As he and his buddies fight their way through the formidable Gothic Line in Northern Italy, and continue to fight their way north, into the Po Valley, Stan Scislowski recounts these events with panache and humour
