Dear Zachary is a documentary about the case of Shirley Jane Turner. It was made by Kurt Kuenne, a friend of the child's murdered father, released by Oscilloscope Pictures, and said to be a tour-de-force of editing. The murderer, Shirley Jane Turner, fled to Canada, where she gave birth to a baby fathered by the man she had killed. Bagby's parents pursued legal options in Canada to have the baby turned over to them while Turner remained free on bail. Kuenne worked with the parents during this process, documenting the case on film, with the intent of showing the child the truth about his father someday in case Turner managed to retain her freedom and custody. When her legal situation became less favorable, Turner then killed herself and the baby, and the documentary reveals this fact through interviews with the grandparents.
