An urban legend made popular by the streets of every hood is about to make the silver screen. The legend is a gang called the Decepticons who made its niche in American history by terrorizing the streets of New York for more than a decade. Moviegoers have waited eagerly for years to see this story on screen. But, how could one tell a story without seemingly glorifying the brutal violence the vicious teens used to hold their city under siege? Writer/Director Shawn Baker along with film producer Spice Greene ingeniously created a tale of redemption and chance surrounding the sadistic bloodshed, appropriately naming it Eddie Black a nationally known abbreviation shouted in countless rap songs. Finally, a film that delivers an expected dose of sex, drugs and violence while documenting a frightening moment in American history a film that has it all. And when the smoke clears, and end credits roll, moviegoers, young and old, will head home entertained, educated and delivered from sin. Eddie Black. Ready for the ride?
Eddie Black is without question a modern day fusion of Menace To Society and Boyz In The Hood. To know the true potential success of the film, one must know and understand the history of the actual gang. Although most entertainment executives in N.Y. and L.A. are unfamiliar with the Decepticons, most urban hip hop cultured viewers, age 16-45, and nearly every rap star know them well, identifying them as the most notorious of all gangs whose trademark was traveling in packs of 50 - 100 through NYC train cars beating, robbing and sometimes killing innocent commuters at will. They were last reported having several thousand members in NYC, with more chapters in most other major cities. The serving leaders of the gang were recently featured in a 6-page article in FEDS Magazine.
Eddie Black, (played by newcomer Daniel Phillip) is a first year college student on the honor role with street credibility and dreams of becoming an attorney. But the pain of a broken heart draws him to Psycho, (played by Fredro Starr) his childhood friend whos 2nd in command of the Decepticons. A web of lies, murder and mayhem traps him in a world of crime giving him the reputation and crucial conflicts resulting from his gang association. Ironically, his only way out is through the love and trust of a concerned childhood love.
