This VMware appliance is a quick way to deploy one of the best Enterprise Class network monitoring systems (can monitor plenty more than just networks, too), just built on openSuSE 11, released only a little more than a month ago.
If you monitor networks large or small, this is a must-have... It'll shave at least 30% off the time required to setup monitoring a network. Can also be deployed into an existing Nagios network to supplement or backup existing monitoring with little trouble.
Although configured primarily for use by Windows SysAdmins with little or no Linux experience, experienced Linux SysAdmins will also find this VM a big timesaver. Included in the NFO file is a quick reference for how to perform some essentials in Linux comparable to certain actions in Windows.
Includes not only dozens and dozens of pre-configured NRPE, WMI, SNMP checks contributed by Groundworkopensource, it also includes a vast number of NSclient checks I've implemented for Microsoft Windows, DNS, DHCP, Exchange, SQL and more. It also contains the rare check that determines whether the "/3GB boot.ini" switch should be implemented or not on 32-bit Windows, there's no more guessing!

Instructions for deployment
You only need the vmdk (VMware Disk) file within a configured VMWare application. All VMWare applications will work including but not limited to the following versions and later --VMWare Player 5.5, VMWare Server), VMWare Workstation 5.5, VMware GSX, VMWare ESX. Configuration files are included in this release to ease setup on Player.

GWOS pre-configured plug-in support for practically every method which might be used... including NSclient, NSCA, NRPE, SSH, SNMP and more. All pre-configured commands are either provided by GWOS and the NSclient commands are my contribution to the Community.
Included are maybe the first commands ever configured for determining whether to implement the /3GB switch for 32-bit Windows OS. No more guessing! You will know whether the requirements of your situation demand the switch.
GroundworkOpenSource which IMO is one of the best web interfaces to one of the most powerful network and server monitoring applications around, Nagios.
As a default GroundworkOpenSource deployment, this VM can monitor only itself but includes extensive documentation and links to resources which enable monitoring other machines and can even monitor non-computing systems.
For the completely uninitiated to Nagios, I estimate that this VM saves a considerable amount of time but only gets you about 30% to a full deployment.
For the experienced, this VM provides a totally portable, quick to deploy and quick to backup piece of a possibly highly redundant monitoring system which can save hours of tedious installation and configuration.
