Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O'Malley Armstrong [born December 25th 1971 in London, England] professionally known as Dido [Dye-doe] is an English singer-songwriter. The electronic pop chanteuse Dido entered London's Guildhall School of Music at age six; by the time she reached her teens, the budding musician had already mastered piano, violin, and recorder. After touring with a British classical ensemble, she accepted a publishing job. Meanwhile, she sang with a series of local groups before joining the trip-hop outfit Faithless [helmed by her older brother, the noted DJ and producer Rollo] in 1995. The group released its debut album, Reverence, the following year. It went on to sell over five million copies worldwide, and Dido parlayed her newfound success into a solo deal with Arista Records. Since 2001, Dido has won no less than 12 major awards for her music and been a nominee for 9 others. She released 'Safe Trip Home' her third studio album, in November 2008. The album was the 44th best-selling album worldwide of 2008.
'White Flag' is a song by Dido, released as the lead single from her second album, 'Life For Rent'. 'White Flag' is the biggest hit of Dido's career. It is considered one of her signature songs, and helped 'Life For Rent' sell over ten million copies worldwide. The song was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance on the 47th Annual Grammy Awards, losing to 'Beautiful' by Christina Aguilera. The single fared very well on the charts around the world, peaking at No.1 in Australia, Germany, and France, No.2 in the UK and Ireland, and No.18 in the U.S. The song won Best British Single at the 2004 Brit Awards. The video for the song features an appearance by actor David Boreanaz.
