|| In 1991 electronic duo Ultramarine recorded their ||
|| landmark laid-back album Every Man And Woman Is A ||
|| Star, released to great acclaim and eulogised by ||
|| Simon Reynolds in his book Energy Flash: "All sun- ||
|| ripened, meandering lassitude and undulant dub-sway ||
|| tempos, like acid-house suffused with the folky- ||
|| jazzy ambience of the Canterbury scene." As well as ||
|| the sublime single cut Stella, the album offers a ||
|| mesh of acoustic textures underpinned by a ||
|| sometimes dubby, sometimes upfront beat. Itâ€™s a ||
|| lavish mix of light yet infectious rhythms and ||
|| mellow vibes, recalling lazy afternoons and bright ||
|| summer seascapes. Largely instrumental, the album ||
|| also features lyric snatches from Kevin Ayers and ||
|| Robert Wyatt. "It isnâ€™t really techno music," ||
|| confesses Ian Cooper. "We use the shape and form of ||
|| dance music but use different acoustic sounds. Itâ€™s ||
|| the sort of stuff which seeps into you." (NME 6/91) ||

|| It took a few listens to get past the quirkiness of ||
|| it all, but this is fantastic, flavorful, and ||
|| really heartfelt music. Something like pop meets ||
|| folk meets reggae meets squibbly early 90's house, ||
|| all mixed together with a touch that seems ||
|| effortless. Hard to believe when you first hear it, ||
|| but every track, if given a few listens, will get ||
|| under your skin and stay there. Like nothing else I ||
|| own. ||

|| It's feel good music but without the slightest ||
|| sense of puffery, fakery or excess. Lazy acid lines ||
|| blend effortlessly with cello, reverbed harmonica ||
|| or vocal samples.... If I'm with a large and ||
|| diverse group of friends I can drop this and almost ||
|| everyone will like it. It's chill and unobstrusive ||
|| yet engaging - one of my favorites. ||
