All hail the revival of the compilation. For a while there it seemed that every compilation being produced was just a goodie basket of hits strung together with little or no thought concerning the artistry of the mix: the focus was on the individual tracks, not the entirety of the set that contains it. In the midst of all the hit mixes, it seemed the true DJ mix had gone the way of chain music retailers. And leave it to Tony Moran to turn the return of that art form into an Event. The Event is in the same tribal/vocal vein as his last double-disc set, Tour De Beats, and carries the same "wow factor" as Offer Nissim's "Forever Tel Aviv" with endless exclusive tracks and mixes. Everyone and your mother's high school crush is on here in some capacity, be it vocals, production, remixing, mastering, sampling, coffee runs, pool boy services, etc. In fact there's such an extreme landscape of contributors that even after 5+ listens, I can't even pick out a track I truly love more than any other. This is doubtlessly the circuit soundtrack of Summer 2007. I hear people listening to it on their iPods at the gym. I hear people talking about it out at the bars. And the sales are unstoppable. Don't be left out, get yours today.
