Joe Dante claimed that the gremlins musical number is a shameless steal from the Warner Bros. musical
comedy film "Dames" (1934).
Dr Catheter can be seen carrying a pod from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956).
When one of the gremlins gets injected with the bat serum and becomes a bat, it breaks through the window
and forms in the broken glass the logo for Batman (1989), another Warner Bros. release.
When Billy is tied up to a dental chair, the gremlin Daffy in dental gear attacks him with a tooth drill
and says "Is it safe?". This is a reference to the movie Marathon Man (1976).
An obvious reference to The Wizard of Oz (1939): One gremlin is dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West,
melting, saying, "I'm melting! What a world! What a world!"
In the scene where Mohawk drinks a potion which enables him to change into a centauroid spider, the
pulsating sound effect from Tarantula (1955) can be heard. The effect was originally recorded for the
Martian war machines in The War of the Worlds (1953).
