Showcased in the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival, the movie tells the story of a city-dweller diagnosed with a terminal illness who runs away to the rural countryside and finds love.
In “Happiness”, things can't get any worse for Yeong-jae a heavy drinking playboy: His nightclub goes bankrupt, his girlfriend deserts him and he might die from cirrhosis.
He retreats to a rehabilitation center in the country, where he finds true love. Eun-hi suffers from fatally weak lungs, but despite her frail appearance she is kind-hearted and takes care of the other patients. Yeong-jae and Eun-hi fallin love and move into a small house in the countryside. Each moment is filled with peace and Yeong-jae discovers a happiness unknown to him before.
Yet as Yeong-jae regains his strength, he grows bored with country life and feels suffocated by Eun-hi's devotion. "Before, I couldn't live without you, but now, you're driving me crazy", he tells her bitterly.
Actor Hwang Jeong-min is unrecognizable from his much-loved image as a passionately devoted husband in "You are my Sunshine" (2005) as he trades in his farmer clothes and potbelly for a dangerously urban look.
The film stars Hwang Jeong-min and Im Soo-jeong with Heo Jin-ho directing. The movie was released October 3rd.
