H.G. Wells was born September 21, 1866. Herbert George Wells grew up to become a social philosopher, utopian, novelist and the "father" of science fiction and fantasy before his death in 1946. In 1898 his novel about an alien invasion, The War of the Worlds, was published. What started out as an ordinary morning on October 30, 1938 became a legendary day in history. This was the day Orson Welles broadcast the radio adaptation of The War of the Worlds that terrified millions of Americans because they believed that Martians were, in fact, invading Earth. Sixty-eight years later in 2006 Vinyl Mind presents The War of the Worlds, a remix of the original broadcast set to music composed by Vinyl Mind. This project was three years in the making taking from 2002 to 2005 to complete. The idea came in 2002 when The Phantom Spook presented Number 156 with a cassette tape of the original broadcast for remastering. Soon after they began putting together the idea for a concept album using the broadcast. Artists involved with this project include Number 156, The Phantom Spook, DedEmA, The Human, Jason Noland, David Baker and Rob Tahan. Vinyl Mind became involved in this project because they share many of the same social and political views as H.G. Wells. By the time H.G. Wells was middle age he had become admired world wide and was using his fame to promote his vision of the future which included the belief that the future promised "knowledge or extinction." Vinyl Mind believe that this future of "knowledge or extinction" is what we are living in today given all the advancements in technology. The world could change at any moment in either direction. The War of the Worlds, as presented by Vinyl Mind, is more than just a concept album. It's more than just samples put to music as it takes on a life of its own. Both the music and the broadcast are equally important as they compliment each other drawing the listener into The War of the Worlds in such a way that you don't just hear the message this classic tale conveys; You feel it
