Debutta alla posizione numero 143 nella classifica Billboard 200 con 6,469 copie vendute nella prima settimana, arrivando alla posizione 1 nella classifica Billboard Chart nel marzo 2006. Inoltre, ha vinto 4 dischi di Platino.
L'album arriva anche alla posizione 1 nella classifica iTunes Best Selling Albums e su Amazon.com's Top Sellers for Music. La colonna sonora di High School Musical è anche la prima colonna sonora che arriva alla prima posizione nella classifica di Billboard.
In Italia, il CD è uscito l'11 ottobre 2006 assieme al DVD.
