The Peel Sessions (Strange Fruit SFRCD 130 / 1994) features fifteen Thin Lizzy tracks recorded for John Peel's BBC Radio One-London broadcasts from 1972 through 1977. During that brief time period, when Lizzy was getting tighter with each album release, Philip Lynott and the boys guested on John Peel's program a total of eleven times. The following documents the track listing with the original radio broadcast dates:

Rosalie (May 29, 1975)
Suicide (May 29, 1975)
Emerald (Dec. 12, 1976)
Cowboy Song (Dec. 12, 1976)
Jailbreak (Dec. 12, 1976)
Don't Believe A Word (Sept. 23, 1976)
Little Darling (April 4, 1974)
Still In Love With You (April 4, 1974)
Vagabonds Of The Western World (July 31, 1973)
Little Girl In Bloom (July 31, 1973)
Killer Without A Cause (Aug. 1, 1977)
Bad Reputation (Aug. 1, 1977)
That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart (Aug. 1, 1977)
Dancing In The Moonlight (Aug 1, 1977)

Throughout the seventies and eighties and even the nineties John Peel has given many an unknown and untested band a chance to glow in the spotlight with his famous show simply called The Peel Sessions. Many fans raised on the Peel Sessions formed bands themselves, inspired by what the show had to offer and the potential of the passion and conviction carried by Peel. Later on some of these acts would get their own Peel Sessions and become part of that healthy staple of rock acts John Peel would bring on his show. After Thin Lizzy released their debut album they decided to relocate to the UK and try their luck at breaking the British market. On the boat over to England Thin Lizzy main man Philip Lynott was skulking around the deck on that cold winters day and stumbled upon John Peel and with his typical Irish upfront attitude told Peel that he was in band called Thin Lizzy and what were the chances of getting a session. Peel liked the nerve of this young dark stranger coming up to him and without a doubt kept his promise. Lynott and his band got their session and started what became a long and fruitful relationship with John Peel and his now legendary show. This album covers the Lizzy sessions from November 1972 with "Whiskey In The Jar", right through the bands lean time ("Vagabonds Of The Western World" is included here from a July 1973 session) and also most rewarding period in the mid to late seventies ("Emerald", "Cowboy Song" and "Jailbreak" from December 1976) that culminated with a session ("Killer Without A Cause", "Bad Reputation", "Dancing In The Moonlight" all from August first 1977) or two from the Bad Reputation album in the summer of 1977. John Peel also went on to write the introduction on Philip Lynott's second book of poetry in 1976 simply titled Philip and fondly remembered that first encounter with Thin Lizzy's enigmatic front man back in 1971 on the boat cruising across the Irish sea as Thin Lizzy headed for new pastures. The Peel Sessions offers something different as a compilation album and documents a band in session from their humble beginnings to their mastering and success as a hard rock band in the late seventies. A must have collection for any rock fan or for the fan of the Peel Sessions themselves
