It’s been five years since The Apex Theory released a full-length album; their last was Topsy-Turvy, which I totally dug. The full-length Faces is due out sometime this summer, but to satisfy any latent and/or lingering desire to hear new shit, they released a fifteen-minute EP with a single song: “Lightpost”.
“Lightpost” is more in the vein of Topsy-Turvy’s seventh track “That’s All!” with a distinct lack of the off-rhythm distorted guitar tip that pervades the previous LP. The Mediterranean sound is still there, but in a much more progressive, alt-rock kinda’ way.
If you used to like System of a Down (before they started writing the same songs over and over again with different lyrics), and prefer a mellower music experience at times… give The Apex Theory a try. You won’t be disappointed.
