Grobschnitt's debut album is a fantastic example of what was going on during the early 70's prog rock and krautrock scene in Germany. It's heavier and rawier than their later studio albums with the music here being more energetic space rock as apposed to the symphonic progressive rock they are more commonly known for. Fans of early Eloy and Amon Düül II should absolutely snap this one up.

The album starts with the mini-epic Symphony, which is a nice beginning showcasing catchy psychedelic rock and finishing in a beautiful melancholic mood. The second song has kind of a Camel, Santana vibe going, it's very nice. The symphonic side of Grobschnitt is represented here by Wonderful Music, an enchanting medieval-like tune. But the highlight of the disc is Sun Trip, a 20 minutes long evolving space jam which announces their masterpiece Solar Music. The introduction guitar pattern is frightening, the song is dark, catchy and very psychedelic. The remastered version contains a 30 minutes live version of Die Sinfonie - a follow up to the first track of the album, albeit darker and more experimental than the original.

Very different from Rockpommel's Land, the first release from Grobschnitt reveals their spacey side and inspires fundamental krautrock albums. Hysterical laughter, simulated machine gun fire, a flute & acoustic guitar piece, passages from the bible read in a deep German voice over stormy soundscapes, a rock symphony in 5 movements, effects and synthesizers galore - What more could you ask for?
