Cattywompus is comprised of a brothers rhythm section James (Bass, Vocals), John Webber (Drums), the whiskey stained vocals and guitar of Jon Lennartz, and the cryptic blues-fueled lead guitar of Aaron Bateman. Jons lyrics carry themes common throughout blues music and the reality of life: truth, loss, love, travel, war, hope, whiskey, wine and woman with no sugar coating added. The songs mark a search for meaning in this strange and ever-changing world. Aaron, born and raised in the Florida panhandle, provides a deep understanding of roots music with real southern gravy. His style also reaches out to a psychedelic and cryptic sound with room to breathe. Bassist James Webbers talent extends far beyond the knowledge of his instrument. As well as providing a unrelenting and often mood-defining low end, James also contributes lyrics and music influenced by a love of timeless blues musicians. John attacks his drums like he was chopping wood, with relentless intensity and consistency. His philosophy as a drummer is to drive the song both with the grace of a country road and the intensity of a drag strip. Kevin Webber (James & Johns father, otherwise known as "the Witch Doctor") added his years of percussion experience on the Cattywompus recordings and live shows.
Cattywompus ended 2006 with a self-supported tour of the Southern States to promote the new release. With a DIY attitude, the group traveled through twelve states in seek of new ears and new experiences. Less then two weeks later, tragedy struck when Kevin Webber lost the battle to cancer with his family by his side. James, John, Aaron and Jon intend to carry on the legacy of the Witch Doctor and continue on to create inspired and soulful music. "Wildfire" was released December 2005 and marks Kevin's last recording efforts with his sons.
