A strange series of solar flares proves fatal for inhabitants of the Earth, except for the fortunate few who are somehow immune from the effects. Animals go insane and human beings turn to white powder, leaving behind only empty clothing. A handful of survivors attempt to rebuild their lives on the de-populated Earth.

My parents had gone out and I was home alone when I watched this on TV many years ago, lol! Yes, it terrified me as I was only 8 or 9 then. I'm 41 now and would love to see it again, this time without the pillow, blankets, and dog in front of my face! It starts out with a camping trip, one like I have taken so many times with my own family, so true to life. When it's over you have to wonder if something like this could really happen, has it already happened? You have to go look out the window to make sure the world it still the same as when you last saw it. I have only seen the movie once, but it has stayed with me all these years

It makes me smile to see so many others remember this movie and the impact it had. I remember only a few things, the beginning with the cave, the boy turning to dust, going into town. Now that some people mention it, the siphoning and the dogs come back to me.

This was an intense show, even though I only saw it twice back then it sticks with me to the point that I'd call it formative. I remember at the time thinking it was kind of a ripoff of Omega Glory (the Trek episode), but I forgave it because it was such a great exploration of this chilling scenario. Course at six I wouldn't have used those words ;-) but I was a Trekkie back then (still a fan).

In looking around, the Catcom DVD with Embryo seems to be out of stock everywhere. Used VHS still is around, mostly ex-rentals that would be a letdown I'm sure. Perhaps after all these years WHATPG wouldn't hold up but I'm eager to find out.

A treasured childhood memory that has a place on my shelf reserved against the day this gets a proper, modern release. Hopefully before the sun starts acting up. :-P

I too remember this movie from my childhood. I wish I could see it again. I remember the kid taking food from the store and looking around like someone was going to catch him and then the dogs (or wolves chasing him and him running into a car. I have thought of it many times and wish I could see it again. Is it possible? It would be great bringing back memories of childhood movies like Johnny Sako and Giant robot and Ultraman. Does anyone know of a way to find or get these type of movies. I don't remember anything else about the movie other than that I was scared and moved.I didn't remember why all the people disappeared. I just got done watching damnation alley with Jan Micheal Vincent and George Pepparad. This was another type of end of the world movie like where have all the people gone. It is also on the same genre and Omega man with Charleton Heston. It seems that we are kind of obsessed with the end of the world movies

Another really good TV-movie directed by John Llewellyn Moxey, the Master of 70's TV-Movies & Pilots (Genesis II, Night Stalker, Kung Fu, A Taste of Evil, etc.) This is another in a long line of End of the World/Doomsday stories. Peter Graves give another solid performance as the father of a family on vacation, just trying to return home, and reunite the rest of his family with his wife, during and after the crisis.
