John Carpenter's excellent post-apocalyptic outing featuring Kurt Russell amazingly cast in the unforgettable role of rogue anti-hero Snake Plissken.

New York City is a destroyed wreck with buildings in shambles and people surviving like wild animals. Gangs of violent and barbaric psychopaths rule the streets all serving under one figure of total power, The Duke (played by Isaac Hayes who is super badass as always). All of Manhattan Island has been converted into a maximum security prison patrolled constantly by armed enforcement personnel and helicopters are ready at a moments notice to enter into action. It's in this environment of despair and hopelessness that Kurt Russell's Snake Plissken character is 'recruited' by Police Commissioner Hauk (Lee Van Cleef) to get into the city and resue the United States President who is being held hostage by the Duke. The catch is Snake only has one day to do so as Hauk injected him with explosive microscopic implants which are set to detonate in exactly twenty- four hours. With no choice but to comply, Plissken heads into the deadly urban wasteland of New York City to try and save the president while surving the madness in the streets and the explosive microchips in his own body.

Other important characters are played by Donald Pleasance, Ernest Borgnine, Adrienne Barbeau, and Harry Dean Stanton. So overall it's a solid cast and each of the actors gives a great performance.

The soundtrack for the film is done by Carpenter as well and it's excellent.
