That's about it for basic story in this Underwater Monster Movie from original "Friday the 13th" director Sean S. Cunningham. It's a far cry from being exemplary or even original, but it's not the embarrassment that "Leviathan" is. In that other similarly-themed film, it got annoying watching big-name actors and film-makers do such a lackluster job. Despite what is probably a smaller budget, Cunningham and his team here manage to make something that is at least watchable. Cast is merely OK, but the ever-reliable Miguel Ferrer (as a team member who loses it big-time) is so good he actually makes it worth watching. The appearance of the monster manages to be impressive without actually inspiring any real terror.
No contest as far as I'm concerned - this movie is routine, average and forgettable - but it still kicks "Leviathan"'s behind.
