Brilliant anime which tells the story of a ravaged planet whose cities have all but crumbled from the wars waged by its human population. Amongst the wreckage though stands the beautiful and modern city of Utopia, a land mass cohabitated by both humans and another humanoid race, the Bioroids. At the center of it all lies Gaia, a massive intelligence network and almost sentient force of technology and collective consciousness which is a constant source of counsel, debate, and guidance for the city's powerful Bioroid council of decision-making elders.
On the exterior, Bioroids are indistinguishable from humans as they both look and act identical to their human counterparts. What differentiates these beings though is their inability to reproduce, their abscence of primary human emotions (eg. anger, love, hate, etc.), their need for recharging their bodies life source, and perhaps most important of all, their inability to get angered and enter into conflict with other beings. That last attribute is critical as it also explains the origin of this race as they were created by man to blend in amongst socity as buffers between humans to prevent conflict, hostility, and
ultimately war. Appparently their creation was a great success as Utopia stands testament to this. Bioroids are native to this city and have lived here only. It's also no coincidence that all other cities have fallen to the destruction of the human vs. human war machine with the exception of Utopia which lives up to its name because of the Bioroid presence.
Perfection comes at a price though, as a resentful human military faction led by General Uranus rises to challenge the Bioroids. With no other choice, the Bioroids and their human allies recruit a young human woman, Deunan, a lethal fighting fury who excels in weapons and hand-to-hand combat. Deunan's eventual compliance in matters comes when she realizes just what a surprisingly critical role she plays at the center of it all while learning how the fate of the Bioroid race may lay in her hands alone. Throughout her trials in Utopia, by her side is her cyborg battle companion, friend, and sworn protector, Briareos.
The fate of Utopia, the Bioroids, and humanity itself therefore comes to rest upon the shoulders of Deunan and Briareos.
