William Thacker (Hugh Grant) traut seinen Augen kaum, als ploetzlich Kinostar Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) seinen Buch-laden im Herzen des Londoner Stadtteils Notting Hill betritt. Nervoes wechselt er ein paar Saetze mit ihrund damit waere diese traumhafte Begegnung eigentlich auch schon vorbei.
Das Schicksal hat jedoch andere Plaene: Wenige Minuten spaeter stoet William auf der Portobello Road buchstaeblich mit Anna zusammen. So nimmt in Londons Westend eine romantische und zugleich abenteuerliche Geschichte ihren Anfang.
Doch die beiden leben in zwei voellig verschiedenen Welten. Im Blitzlichtgewitter der Sensationspresse scheint ihre Liebe keine Chance zu haben.
