Kelis Rogers-Jones [nee Rogers, born August 21st 1979 in Manhattan, NYC, U.S.A.], better known as Kelis, is an American R&B singer-songwriter. Kelis [who is married to Nas] was born and raised in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, New York. Her first name, is a combination of her father's name, Kenneth, and her mother's name, Eveliss. Kenneth is an African-American jazz musician, Pentecostal minister, and professor at Wesleyan University. Eveliss is a Chinese-Puerto Rican fashion designer, who inspired Kelis to pursue her singing career. Only a true artist has the ability to innovate an entire genre. Ever since debuting with her first album Kaleidoscope nearly ten years ago, Kelis has remained on the cutting edge of both fashion and music. As one of the first major pop stars to collaborate with the Grammy award-winning production duo The Neptunes, Kelis became a trendsetter for an entire generation of hip-hop and R&B artists. Through the incredible collection of songs found on her four albums, she has managed to stretch the barriers of modern day soul to incorporate hints of dance, rock and rap music.

With 'The Hits', fans will be able to trace the Harlem-born singer's vast influence. Songs like her first ever single 'Caught Out There' where the former pink-haired singer screamed "I hate you so much right now" and her body rockin' duet with Ol' Dirty Bastard 'Got Your Money' showcase the trendsetting songstress' universal appeal. 'Young, Fresh N' New', 'Bossy', and the racy 'In Public' are also included among Kelis' greatest hits along with her chart-topping sing-along, 'Milkshake'.
