This torrent is a custom-assembled cut of Salò that is the highest quality, most complete version of the film available.

It's primarily a rip of the Gaumont DVD, combined with the missing scene from the BFI release. (This is thus the only version of the high quality Gaumont print available with English subtitles.) Pasolini's introduction to the film, from the BFI DVD, has also been appended. See the DVDBeaver comparison page for more information. Because the BFI print is inferior to the Gaumont, the 20-second, restored missing scene is of lower quality than the rest of the film. An mp3 of the film's theme music is also included.

The film is set in the Republic of Salò, the Fascist rump state which was set up in the German-occupied portion of Italy in 1944. Four men of power, with the aid of several collaborators, kidnap eighteen young men and women (nine male, nine female), and take them to a palace near Marzabotto. With them are four middle-aged prostitutes, also collaborators, whose function is to recount various arousing stories for the men, who in turn exploit their victims sexually and sadistically. During the time spent at the palace, the four men devise increasingly abhorrent humiliations and tortures for their own pleasure.

A loose adaptation of the Marquis de Sade's The 120 Days of Sodom, Pasolini's Salò is perhaps the most disturbing and disgusting film ever made. It has also been called one of the most important, offering a blistering critique of class divisions and modern consumer culture.

(Note: Criterion is preparing a new print of Salò for release on DVD in late 2007.)


Instructions on loading subtitles, for those who need it:
- Download, install and run VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). This program is available for Windows, Mac and Linux
- In VLC, select File / Open File (Not "Quick Open File")
- Check the box that says "Use a subtitles file"
- Browse to the movie and subtitle files
- Enjoy
- If you're still having issues, the problem is on your side. Figure it the fuck out yourself

There are many other ways to load subtitles. VLC is simply an easy solution for all operating systems
