If you already have these files and would like to help seed, place them in a folder named Rough Science Series 3 and read the instructions in I have the single episodes, can I seed on them now?

ROUGH SCIENCE is a UK factual television series made by the BBC in collaboration with the Open University and has, as of 2007, had six series. It is broadcast in prime time on BBC Two and is considered something of a "break-out hit" for the Open University.

The series' formula consists of a group of four or five scientists, with specialities in different fields, who are given tasks which they must complete, using the natural resources of the surrounding area together with a small set of supplies. Each programme features a different set of tasks, and follows the scientists as they use their knowledge and ingenuity in attempting to fulfill them, and in the process educate the viewing public - despite temporary setbacks being common.

The episodes require the team to either work together in smaller groups to fulfill requirements for the overall challenge, to work in small groups to fulfil vaguely related challenges, or to complete the same task in competition with one another. The programme has been set in a different scenic location each series, typically somewhere with plenty of plants for use by the group. The presenter is Kate Humble, who is accompanied by a group of scientists, some of whom appear in several of the series.

This series took place on the west coast of the south island of New Zealand, had six episodes, and featured the same scientists as the previous series:

Mike Leahy - virologist
Mike Bullivant - organic photochemist
Jonathan Hare - chemist, physicist, inventor and teacher
Kathy Sykes - a science communicator and physicist
Ellen McCallie - an ecologist and teacher

Series 3 Episode 1 - Gold Rush
Five ingenious scientists start their epic journey on the other side of the world to hunt for gold. Kate Humble joins the team of modern day prospectors as they follow in the footsteps of the original gold pioneers on the rugged and unforgiving west coast of New Zealand's South Island.
To find gold they have to solve a series of seeming impossible challenges with only basic tools, simple materials and a few helpful household items like a bag of sugar and some old radios. The scientists’ brainpower, and muscle power, are tested to the limit as they battle with dense forest and fast flowing rivers in one of the wettest places on Earth, with over 5 metres of rain a year. The team's ultimate challenge is to make a souvenir from pure New Zealand gold.

Series 3 Episode 2 - Shakers
The scientists turned gold prospectors continue their epic search for gold in the wilds of New Zealand's South Island.
Presenter Kate Humble struggles with the team as they battle to extract enough gold to make a souvenir by the end of the series. To add to the half a gram they extracted in the first week, they adopt increasingly bizarre methods to get rich and solve science puzzles.

Season 3 Episode 3 - Quakers
The two Mikes - Bullivant and Leahy - are sent on an overnight expedition to find gold-bearing rock. First, they need to build their own waterproof tent to keep them dry, warm and protected from the unpredictable climate on the island. Meanwhile, Kathy Sykes and Jonathan Hare are tasked with making a seismograph and measuring earthquake activity in the area.

Season 3 Episode 4 - Ice
Kate Humble takes the Rough Scientists away from their epic quest for New Zealand gold and sets them one of the toughest challenges yet. The team must measure the speed and melt of the Franz Josef Glacier, an awesome seven miles of ice. In addition, the scientists have to keep themselves warm on the ice without lighting fires. With just a basic toolkit and the island's natural resources at their disposal, they build an ice lens and generate chemical heat. The team must draw on their pooled ingenuity and scientific knowledge to complete these seemingly impossible tasks.

Season 3 Episode 5 - Treasure Hunt
In the penultimate episode, the team of scientists have managed to collect three grams of gold - but is this sufficient to make a pure gold souvenir? With the deadline looming, Humble sets three more tough challenges. The scientists need to extract gold from rock, from sand and also find buried gold using a treasure map. As the tension mounts, the team combine their skills and experience and resort to some unlikely gold prospecting techniques to build a rock-crushing device and an altimeter to locate that pot of gold.

Season 3 Episode 6 - The Big Smelt
It is D-Day for the Rough Science team, who must build a furnace to smelt and form their gold into souvenirs of their six-week stay in New Zealand. Firstly, they must turn their powdered gold flakes into a solid nugget and, in order to do so, they must reach a white-hot 1062°C -- the temperature at which gold melts. The team uses science to re-discover the skills of the original prospectors who, over 150 years ago, worked gold into beautiful objects. Will the scientists manage to make anything from the precious stash of gold they have struggled for weeks to find?
