Heartbeat is set in the 1960s and revolves around the work of a group of police officers in the fictional town of Ashfordly in the North Riding of Yorkshire, whose "patch" also includes the nearby village of Aidensfield, a fictionalised version of the real-life village of Goathland in the North York Moors, where the series is partly filmed.

1/15 - Family Matters
Some disturbing events compromise Miller professionally and his career hangs in the
balance. Peggy's antics trigger a health scare which results in an unexpected solution.

2/15 - England Expects
An old villain returns to Aidensfield with a score to settle with the Ashfordly police.
And Peggy persuades David into making clay pots, with explosive consequences.

3/15 - Mother of Invention
Joe and Carol join forces to support a local single mother struggling to cope, but clash
over the best course of action. Younger and the boys are put to task when the Police
Constable's wife loses her dog Hercules.

4/15 - Living Off the Land
Joe and Rachel investigate a violent attack on a travelling hippie - but things are not quite
what they seem on the surface. And David goes to war with a rival local taxi firm.

5/15 - Guilty Secrets
When a criminal allegation is made against a fellow officer, Joe risks his career
to prove their innocence - and Bernie receives some staggering news.

6/15 - Strike Up the Band
The police investigate when the rivalry between two brass bands leads to violence.
Dawn finds romance with a handsome stranger, but her happiness may not last.

7/15 - Return Crossing
Joe is asked to help a widow who is getting death threats from a corrupt person who knew
her late husband. A visitor from Poland arrives in the village looking for a lost love.

8/15 - Looking for Isabella
A boy's life hangs in the balance when he falls down a well. A media circus
descends and Peggy and David play host to a troublesome celebrity journalist.

9/15 - The Hospital Job
A search for stolen antiques turns life-threatening for Mason and Wetherby. Prejudices
are stirred by the arrival of a group of Taoist monks, while David discovers his spiritual side.

10/15 - Ups and Downs
A cat burglar is on the prowl, targeting the wealthiest homes in the district. Bernie worries
when Rosie fails to return from Australia. Carol catches the eye of a dashing visitor while
Peggy plays matchmaker for David.

11/15 - Thursday's Children
Rachel, Joe and Carol go to Australia in search of a missing person - Rosie and Carol's long-lost brother.

12/15 - The Middle of Somewhere
Worried that Carol is in danger, Joe leaves their Australian investigation to look for her. Back
in town, another woman has disappeared in the area of the town, and a prime suspect appears
to have gone too. And Rachel, Joe and Carol finally find what they are looking for - but their
search ends in tragedy.

13/15 - School of Hard Knocks
When an ex-army schoolteacher takes his strict discipline too far, Joe races to find a missing
gun and a schoolboy bent on revenge. Meanwhile, the villagers prepare for a trip to London,
but Oscar's itinerary sparks divisions.

14/15 - The Runaways
A gangster's accountant is on the run from his underworld bosses.
David finds an old jeep with a surprising history.

15/15 - Cashing In
A flood of forged notes leads the police to believe that a missing gangster is on their patch,
but attempts to flush him out put Rachel in peril. Bernie is over the moon when his favourite
celebrity moves in just down the road - but is she too good to be true?
