Just a few great songs from the early days. Some of them not so common.

No, I’m not on a mission but some of you lads just have to know why we old rockers keep on whining about the old days when everything was better, cheaper, smaller and all about the music. No big budgets, no massive shows, just a great scene with bands playing great music. I give you a small selection of well-known and more obscure bands which always stayed in my mind.
So here they are:

1. ADX – Execution – Execution – 1985
Boring French instrumental metal? Fuck no. Beside cheese and wine they also produced some great musicians. Watch the breaks, especially the one in the middle.

2. Anthrax – Gung Ho – Spreading the Disease – 1985
If you like fast listen to this. The drummer must have bionic arms and legs

3. Attitude – Save Thy Brother - The Good, The Bad & The Obnoxious - 1987
Don’t be fooled by the intro. Great thrasher.

4. Billy Talent – Red Flag – Billy Talent II - 2006
Instant smile on my face. One of the reasons why I still listen to this shit. Shouldn’t write this but I also like SR71 – right now.

5. Carnivore – Sex and Violence – Retaliation - 1987
Sick music from a sick band. What was that stupid Peter Steele thinking of when he moved to Type O Negative?

6. Clown Alley – Unplugged – Circus of Chaos – 1986
Great stop and go action.

7. Death Angel – Mistress of Pain – The Ultra Violence – 1987
A steamroller classic. Check out their latest album.

8. Détente – Widows Walk (demo) - Recognize No Authority -1986
The demo blew my head off and is way better than the album version. You won’t find this one anywhere else.

9. DRI – Couch Slouch – Dealing With It – 1985
Not really metal but who gives a fuck. One of the best crossover albums ever.

10. Europe – Scream of Anger – Wings of Tomorrow – 1984
Yes it’s the Europe but before they went making commercial shit. I like the guitar effect.

11. GBH – Sick Boy - City Baby Attacked By Rats – 1982
Another crossover. Simple but extremely effective.

12. Grip Inc – Hostage to Heaven – Power Of Inner Strength – 1995
Yes I know it’s a quite recent album, but it’s such a fucking great track

13. Hades – On the Iliad – Resisting Success – 1987
A one hit wonder.

14. Heir Apparent – The Servant – Graceful Inheritance - 1985
They knew how to write good songs in those days. A classic.

15. Holy Moses – Current of Death – Finished With The Dogs - 1987
She must be the best female thrash singer ever. Leave it to the Germans. Really aggressive.

16. Holy Terror – Blood of the Saints – Terror and Submission - 1987
Seems like the singer is either too late or too early but it all adds up.

17. Loudness – Dream Fantasy – Disillusion – 1987
Don’t mind the accent. Akira Takasaki is one fucking great guitar player.

18. Mace – Mace – Process of Elimination – 1985
Manic chaotic chainsaw thrash. Took some time before anyone topped this.

19. Metal Church – Beyond the Black – Metal Church -1985
Track from their first album which is a must have for every living person.

20. Nuclear Assault – Radiation Sickness – Game Over - 1987
Impossible to keep your head still with this one. Mark King eat your heart out. Turn up loud.

21. Prong – Decay – Force Fed – 1991
Yes another crossover. I’m not a big Prong fan but this one goes down really nice.

22. Raven Bitch - East III Gates – Tear Down the Walls – 1987
Best track from their EP. Offered for hundreds of dollars on the internet. Greedy bastards.

23. Realm – Poisoned Minds – Endless War – 1988
Like the polka-tempo of this track.

24. Riot – Don’t Bring Me Down – Fire Down Under - 1981
Next to Reign in Blood the best record ever made. A milestone. Don’t know why I like this album so much, it’s not even metal. Had to be specially imported for Europe, crazy fuckers. Should have sold billions.

25. Savatage – Rage – Sirens – 1983
Really couldn’t choose a favorite. Such a great album. Went for the fastest track.

26. Slayer – Piece by Piece – Reign in Blood – 1986
Speaks for itself. A brilliant, relentless, unparalleled masterpiece. Pure aggression.

27. SOD – Kill Yourself – Speak English or Die – 1985
Great dance music which will kill you. Billy rules.

28. Toxic – Victims – World Circus – 1987
Technical with lots of breaks. Don’t normally like this kind of music but Toxic is an exception.

29. Vicious Rumors – Ride (Into the Sun) – Soldiers of the Night – 1985
Always had a soft spot for this band.

30. Voi Vod – Nuclear War – War and Pain -1984
Took me a year to appreciate this album. Really punches you in the face.

31. Wargasm – Humanoid – Why Play Around - 1986
Some nice fast upbeat music. Just keeps on going.

32. Zoetrope – Amnesty – Amnesty – 1985
Great rollercoaster neck breaker.
