The Essence - it is ! Keith Jarrett and his trio at their best. Jazz,blues, and soul all rolled into one album.

Most of the time in one standard.This album grew on me.3

I truly listen to there live recordings because that's where there at their paramount.From the first tune "the

meaning of the blues " it has that live recording sound and feel, they just jump right into it.

I really think this is their best recording ever - it has that "essence " to it.

They should've named the album that, but that's not there concern, it's the music with these guys , flat out.

''God bless the child " is the album, i would've bought this album just with this tune, wow, awesome

jam going on.

Every tune has a tastefulness.

Keith has the touch , but not to forget Jack & Gary , their a perfect match for Keith inventiveness.Sometimes keith would solo , but Jack & Gary would bring the tune to a new level.

And from that a new tune would appear.If you don't own this album , drop everything and go out get it , because Standards volume 1 is the "Essence".
