This torrent contains 48 of my favorite high quality soundfonts and the complete collection of MIDI files from the The Video Game Music Archive.
The VGMA set was complete as of 2006-08-09 and the soundfonts vary in size from 2MB to 350 MB. I've also created a CLRMAME Pro dat for the soundfont set and each soundfont has been Torrent Zipped. This means if you already have some of the soundfonts contained in my collection you just need to scan them with my CLRMAME Pro dat, Torrent Zip the soundfonts that CLRMAME Pro finds and finally place those files in your torrent download directory. Believe me, it's much easier than it sounds and it's worth the effort to conserve your ratio and bandwidth plus you will be helping me to seed. It’s a win win situation. The CLRMAME Pro dat is included in this torrent and you also can get it here.
The MIDI files are sorted by category just like they are at the VGMA and each category is Torrent Zipped. The set comes with a CLRMAME Pro dat file for verification purposes and for those hard core collectors out there as well! ;)
Don't underestimate the power of MIDI files! With the right soundfont a MIDI file can sound just as good if not better as a high quality MP3. If you have a SoundBlaster sound card then you can load these soundfonts to memory by using Creative's Soundfont Bank Manager. This program comes with your SoundBlaster card's driver install disc. If the Soundfont Bank Manager didn't come with your driver installation CD, you can go to Creative's Download Page and try to find it there.
Don't despair if you don't have a SoundBlaster card though. You can still load soundfonts and enjoy MIDI files by using Synthfont. SynthFont is a free tool for playing MIDI files making use of soundfonts. With SynthFont you do not need any particular sound card. In fact, in order to load the soundfonts that are over 250MB contained in this torrent you are going to need Synthfont. Creative sound cards have an approximate 250MB limit on the size of soundfonts that the Soundfont Bank Manager can load into memory. So Synthfont is your friend indeed…
Well, I hope that you all enjoy the MIDI and soundfont files and be sure to visit The Video Game Music Archive for all of your video game music MIDI needs. Here are a few links that you all might find useful as well...
This is the official Creative SoundFont FAQ. It explains what exactly soundfonts are and how to load them. Very useful...
sf2midi.com is a great site to get soundfonts from. You might want to check it out and discover some more soundfonts for yourself. The soundfonts in this torrent are my personal favorites but you might want to find some others as well.
