Crazy Dog Audio Theatre returns to RTÉ Radio 1 this March with their new series Infidel.

Infidel is a compelling historical war drama, featuring all the hallmarks of Crazy Dog Audio Theatre's international award-winning 'audio-movies' including; location recordings, original music score, state-of-the-art sound design and some of the best voice talents working in Ireland today.

Infidel is a drama about religious fanaticism and human compassion. Set against the backdrop of the Fifth Crusade, the drama draws many disturbing historical parallels which shed light on the conflicts of today. The wider events, grand personages and religious beliefs depicted in the series are based on contemporaneous accounts of the period. It was during this conflict that Francis of Assisi famously crossed enemy lines to meet with the Sultan Al Kamil. Like the bumper stickers that challenge the current architects of war, Infidel asks: 'Who would Jesus bomb?'

Infidel was originally a stage play written in 1991 by Roger Gregg and produced by Cork's Graffiti Theatre Company. Commissioned by Trocaire, Graffiti toured Munster with INFIDEL throughout 1991 and also staged to great acclaim at that year's Dublin Theatre Festival. In 1993, a second Graffiti production of Infidel toured to NYU's Black Box Theatre in New York City.

With Infidel's political and theological themes of again having an urgent timeliness, the play has been adapted and expanded into a 4 episode radio series. The script was re-designed to create an epic drama only possible in the audio medium. The combination of the realism of the location recordings, vivid sound design and original music score has resulted in a graphically disturbing audio-epic. To achieve a convincing medieval soundscape, much of INFIDEL was recorded on location in the stables, courtyard, and with the horses at the historic Raleigh House near Macroom.

This new audio epic is written, directed and produced by Roger Gregg, director of Crazy Dog Audio Theatre, recent winners of the Hot Press 2005 Yearbook's Award for 'Best Audio Comedy' and twice cited by BBC Radio 4 as among the creators of 'the world's best radio'.
