In the brief era of story songs, this one was king. Oddly enough it was originally banned from radio because the original version had the words "at the bottom of this mine lies one Helluva man". The 45 was recalled and and it was replaced with the Big Big Man line and the rest is history. When you are in the junk & thrift stores, flea markets or wherever old records are sold you can always tell the difference between the versions by the label. Any version with Big Bad John as the title is the original "Helluva" version. Big John is the edited copy. ~ Red
