Jack werd geboren op de koudste dag uit de geschiedenis en heeft zijn hart
voelen bevriezen. Madeleine, de horlogemaakster die hem in huis heeft
genomen, heeft in zijn borstkas een klok getransplanteerd zodat zijn hart
blijft kloppen. Maar als Jack op een dag verliefd wordt, zou zijn klok
kunnen breken met de dood tot gevolg. Ondanks het feit dat Madeleine hem
zoveel mogelijk beschermt van de buitenwereld, kruist Jack het pad van Miss
Acacia, een jonge zangeres die door haar onhandigheid bij Jack in de smaak
valt. Wanneer zij naar Spanje vertrekt en Jack per ongeluk een andere
minnaar van de knappe zangeres verwondt, moet hij vluchten. Zijn hart wordt
stevig op de proef gesteld en ondanks de waarschuwingen van Madeleine
ontdekt hij wat vriendschap is.
