Synopsis:

Iris King is a recently widowed woman, whose salary as a factory worker can not properly maintaining their two children. One day after work, is assaulted by a pickpocket, but a man came to her aid. The emotional relationship between a widowed mother of two children and a kindly man self-conscious because he can not read or write is the foundation on which sits this simple, everyday melodrama supported by some splendid actors (De Niro as an illiterate and working Fonda , no less ...). Iris King es una mujer que acaba de enviudar y cuyo sueldo como trabajadora en una fábrica no le permite mantener dignamente a sus dos hijos. Un día, al salir del trabajo, es asaltada por un carterista, pero un hombre acude en su ayuda. Se trata de una persona acomplejada, que no sabe leer ni escribir, razón por la cual acaba siendo despedido de su trabajo. Entonces será Iris quien le ofrezca ayuda.

Criticas:

La emotiva relación entre una viudad, madre de dos hijos, y un bondadoso hombre acomplejado porque no sabe leer ni escribir es la base sobre la que se asienta este sencillo y cotidiano melodrama soportado por unos actores espléndidos (De Niro como analfabeto y Fonda una obrera, nada menos...). Obtuvo buenas críticas.
