Lost is an American television series aired on the American Broadcasting Company from September 22, 2004 to May 23, 2010. The series follows the lives of various individuals and groups of people, most importantly the survivors of the crash of a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, on a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific. Episodes typically feature a primary storyline on the island, as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character\'s life. Due to its large ensemble cast and the cost of filming primarily on location in Oahu, Hawaii, the series was one of the most expensive on television.

The first season begins with a plane crash that strands the surviving passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 on what seems to be a deserted tropical island, forcing the group of strangers to work together to stay alive. Their survival is immediately threatened by a number of mysterious entities, including polar bears, an unseen creature that roams the jungle (the \"Monster\"), and the island\'s malevolent, and largely unseen, inhabitants, known as \"The Others.\" They also encounter a Frenchwoman named Danielle Rousseau who was shipwrecked on the island over 16 years earlier, and find a mysterious metal hatch buried in the ground. While one group tries to force their way into the hatch, another attempts to leave the island on a raft that they have constructed. Meanwhile, flashbacks centered on individual survivors detail their lives prior to the plane crash.

Lost è una serie televisiva trasmessa a partire dal 2004 negli Stati Uniti, la serie, le cui riprese si svolgono principalmente sull\'isola di Oahu, Hawaii. È considerata una delle serie più costose della storia della televisione tanto che i costi elevati già a partire dalla prima stagione avevano costretto i produttori esecutivi a considerare l\'idea di cambiare la location delle riprese. Acclamato dal pubblico e dalla critica, Lost ha ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti, tra cui un Golden Globe e tre Emmy Award, registrando un\'audience di più di 16 milioni di telespettatori alle prime messe in onda di ciascun episodio della prima stagione della serie.

La serie è ambientata principalmente su una misteriosa isola tropicale nel Pacifico del sud in cui si ritrovano i sopravvissuti di un incidente aereo. Ben presto i sopravvissuti capiranno che l\'isola nasconde molti segreti e presenze ostili. Nel prosieguo dei vari episodi essi cercheranno di svelarne i misteri inoltrandosi nella foresta presente nell\'entroterra. Le loro ricerche e i tentativi di fuggire o cercare una fonte di energia per poter stabilire un contatto radio sono intervallati da flash-back sulla vita di ogni personaggio unito sempre da un filo conduttore con lo svolgersi dell\'azione sull\'isola. Gli stessi sopravvissuti celano dei segreti che vengono svelati mano a mano e che fanno sì che si vengano a creare dei legami di simpatia o odio gli uni con gli altri.
