Mammy warns Scarlett to behave herself at the party at Twelve Oaks. There is a new man there that day, the day the Civil War begins. Rhett Butler. Scarlett does not know he is in the room when she pleads with Ashley to choose her instead of Melanie.

Passioni e infelicità dell\'inquieta Rossella sullo sfondo della Guerra Civile Americana. Figlia di un ricco proprietario terriero, Rossella ama Ashley, che però le preferisce la cugina Melania. Rossella accetta l’offerta di matrimonio di un vecchio spasimante che, appena scoppiata la Guerra di Secessione, cade in battaglia. A causa del conflitto la proprietà e la famiglia di Rossella vanno in rovina. Lei deve trasferirsi in casa di Melania, ad Atlanta, città che viene messa a ferro e fuoco dai Nordisti ormai vittoriosi. Alla fine della guerra, sola e povera, ritrova l’avventuriero Rhett, arricchito e ancora disposto a occuparsi di lei…
