Volgens talloze legendes zou zich in de Noordwestelijke woestijn van China een onmetelijke schat moeten bevinden. Een groep mysterieuze bewaarders heeft de kaart naar deze schat en als er bij hen onderling een vete uitbreekt komt dit een internationaal misdaadsyndicaat genaamd 'het Bedrijf' ter ore. Zij achtervolgen de kaarthouder, maar deze weet de kaart nog net aan de jonge Ciao Fei (Jay Chou) te geven. Ciao Fei moet de kaart echter opgeven om het leven te redden van zijn vriendin Lan Ting (Chiling Lin). Samen met beroemd archeoloog Hua Ding Bang en Lan Ting gaat hij op pad om de kaart terug te krijgen en de schat veilig te stellen.
