Sinopsis

Hay un secreto en la vida de Mussolini: una mujer y un hijo, reconocido al nacer y después repudiado. El secreto tiene un nombre: Ida Dalser (Giovanna Mezzogiorno). Es una página oscura en la historia, ignorada en la biografía oficial del Duce. Cuando Ida conoce a Mussolini en Milán, él es el editor de Avanti y un ferviente socialista que pretende guiar a las masas a través de un futuro anti-clerical, anti-monárquico y socialmente emancipado. Ida ya tuvo un breve encuentro con él en Trento y quedó pasmada. Ida verdaderamente piensa en él y en sus ideas: Mussolini es su héroe. Para financiar Il Popolo d’Italia, un periódico que él había fundado en el núcleo del incipiente Partido Nacional Fascista, Ida vende todo lo que tiene. Alñ estallar la Primera Guerra Mundial, Mussolini se alista en el ejército y desaparece. Cuando Ida vuelve a encontrarle está en un hospital militar, al cuidado de Rachele, con la que se acaba de casar.
