I see some are try to encode at ~500MB if you want better success with very little artifacts - I suggest avidemux- encode to H.264 first then re-encode to h.263 - especially if high artifact ( or if you want the smallest possible mp4 asp compatible file)



your MP4 video will be ~40% bigger then the H.264 source, but will be 30% smaller then a normal mp4 file for the same basic image quality. ( under linux anyways - can not speak for other OS)



example: if the source was a 700MB xvid re-encoding to H264 will take it to 300MB file. then re-encoding it again to H.263 ( mp4 lavc). will leave you with a video file basically the same quality as the original. but of a significant smaller size
