Torrent description

SUPER HITS OF THE 70s - HAVE A NICE DAY
The DVD of SUPER HITS OF THE 70s - HAVE A NICE DAY is Rhino Records\' attempt to issue a video companion to their wildly successful series of CDs (and now-defunct audio cassettes) of the same name, that runs almost two-dozen volumes. This DVD has two volumes, nineteen songs, all from the German TV series MUSIC LADEN.

Among my favorite cuts here include Badfinger, giving a more articulate performance of their hit \"Come And Get It\", without losing any of its appeal. Johnny Rivers is in better form than usual on \"Rockin\' Pneumonia & The Boogie Woogie Flu\". America does a live \"Ventura Highway\" that will break the grip of Janet Jackson\'s recent sampling of it and put you back into its wide-open road feel. \"A Horse With No Name\" is also well-done. Hall & Oates\' \"Rich Girl\" is done with less anger and bitterness than the hit single cut, or is that less Funk, but shows how good they were even then. \"Sara Smile\", a song that has taken on terrible meaning for Hall recently, still endures as one of his best. Al Stewart is here with the always odd \"Year Of The Cat\" and the set concludes with a song atypical of this set, The Ramones\' \"Blitzkrieg Pop\".

The result is an interesting, pre-MTV set that you may want to add to your collection.

PICTURE: The full-screen, full-color analog video is consistent all the way, looking better than it should, because it is a European production. There is not much trick video work here, but the straight-forward camera work and spotlighting of the performances works well. The image quality is below-average overall.

SOUND: Rhino attempts to remix the songs for 5.1 Dolby Digital, but the trouble is that these are old monophonic analog recordings and there are some problems. As is the problem with most Dolby 5.1 in general, the bass is stuck in the LFE, .1, subwoofer channel. The result is bass that is muddy and, unless you have incredibly poor speakers, you should not use your subwoofer. You should experiment with your system (if you have one) for best results.
